Please note face to face appointments will be restarting 8th June 2020
In your first session we will meet to discuss in more detail, what it is that has brought you to therapy. Here, we will also discuss collaboratively, the way you would like us to work together and talk over any concerns or questions you might have. We need to do a little bit of house keeping in this session and go over the counselling contract, to ensure I have covered all your needs and requirements and so that I can communicate to you, my policies and procedures. This takes only a few minutes and I encourage you to take away the contract to read in your own time at home and to bring back a signed copy at our next session.
A first consultation lasts 30 minutes and all other sessions last 50 minutes. 10 minutes is reserved at the end of each hour for me to write some process notes, which enables me to keep a track of our work together.
The length of time counselling is required, is really dependant on each clients individual needs. Counselling usually lasts for 6-12 sessions, we review and discuss working towards an ending at our 5th session, however, this can always be addressed at any time the client would like to address this. The quantity of sessions is dependant mainly on the reasons you are seeking therapy and the clients engagement in the process.
Counselling is short term therapy and can be used anywhere from 3 to12 weeks. However clients may feel they would like to continue after 12 sessions but move to fortnightly or monthly sessions.
Psychotherapy generally lasts longer and can go into months or sometimes longer, this type of therapy is provided for longer term issues or mental health conditions for which clients may require ongoing support.
